Welcome to the floating metropolis of Orlandia!  An age of industry and discovery is upon us, and the skies are abundant with marvelous flying machines, piloted by adventurers, traders, sky knights and air pirates, thanks to the advent of the mysterious float stones.

Fame and glory await you in the open blue, and among the bustling streets of the sky-city, but trusted friends and  dependable allies are important in your potentially dangerous adventures.  Aligning oneself with one of Orlandia’s four factions can be advantageous, but with whom shall you stand?

The AFO staff invites you, the player, to create a character and tell us of his/her exploits in the Skies of Orlandia world. Align yourself with one of the four factions, create or join a guild with your friends, and find your fortune among the Skies of Orlandia.

One-hundred and eleven years ago (and several centuries since the defeat of Emperor Corvidius) the city of Orlandia sat upon a great mountain, and deep within the stone of that mountain lay a most uncommon ore, known as Khazradanium.

The people of Orlandia discovered that the ore held strange properties, and began to mine it from the mountain. Alchemists descended into the mines and began to conduct various experiments.  They found the ore could be charged with certain energies, causing them to levitate, so much so that the stones could bear considerable weight.

It was then that these alchemists had developed the secretive process of creating float stones, and the Benevolent Order of Stone Mages was formed.  A mysterious byproduct emanated from the creation of the float stones, known now as aether.  This strange, luminous gas had quickly permeated through the various shafts within the mountain.  The alchemists and miners were ignorant of the volatile nature of the aether, dismissing it as harmless since it had no obvious ill effects.

The gas escaped into the air around the mountain, until the city was enveloped in a cloud of the mystifying smog.  One day a violent storm formed over the town.  A strike of lightning ignited the aether, resulting in a cataclysmic explosion that shattered the mountain.  Those who survived were shocked to find their beloved city in ruins, the entire top half of the mountain had begun to break free the earth, and was gradually rising!

In the time that passed, the people of Orlandia had learned how to turn this harsh lesson into opportunity.  The Stone Mages perfected their process and have kept this art a closely guarded secret.  A diligent and visionary working class of engineers blossomed as the people toiled and invented, eventually stabilizing the upset landmass into a floating city which now looms over the mines as its citizens continue to harvest the precious ore.

Over time, word spread across the globe of Orlandia’s amazing stones of levitation, and those with power and influence turned the float stones into a valuable commodity.  The city’s economy flourished as people came from all corners of the world to trade for the coveted float stones.

The criminal element soon reared its head as sky pirates began to obtain the stones through nefarious means.  The city leaders created a force of cunning and courageous pilots to defend the city, as well as enforce its laws.  As the people embraced new technologies, science mingled with the mysterious arts of the Stone Mages, and Orlandia now finds itself in a wondrous age of flying machines and mechanical marvels.  This great city in the sky is now the very center of a grand industrial age, full of discovery, adventure and intrigue.

The members of the OSDF are charged with the defense of the country of Orlandia.  The premier pilots and aerologists in the world serve Air Marshall Igor Kerensky.  Air Marshall Kerensky has been leading the fight to keep Orlandia safe from pirate predations for the last 30 years.  His flagship, the Orlandian Warbringer “Crown of Orlandia” , was stolen just before completion 12 years ago by pirates.

Since then, he has created the most advanced and fearsome military the world has ever known.  His loyal “Air Knights” fight to keep safe the skies of Orlandia.

Commonly referred to as “The Order”, this is a secret society steeped in ritual and mysticism.  This sect of alchemists and enchanters is responsible for blessing floatstones, and giving mankind the gift of flight.  No one outside this sect knows the secret to blessing Khazradanium.  Many have tried to discover it through infiltration and deception, and have paid most dearly.

The Order is lead by the Loremaster, Elias H. Lightlifter, a fifth generation Stone Mage.  He is a powerful man charged with keeping powerful secrets.

Initiates are indoctrinated in the ways of The Order from infancy and would die before revealing any secrets of their faction.  Frequently the children of less fortunate families are given to The Order so they will be taken care of for life.

Their highly valued services are costly.  Stone Mages can do anything from a levitation blessing to complicated alchemic spells.  They can shape and manipulate stones as easily as they can Manipulate Orlandia’s destiny.

The Orlandia Engineering Society represents all tradesman, docksmen, miners and laborers of Orlandia.  Collectively referred to as engineers, they are the cogs that keep the engine of Orlandia running smoothly.  The most diverse of all the Factions, Engineers handle a multitude of jobs, with a multitude of specialists.  From basic household plumbing to the most advanced æther processors on Airships, from Mining to Metallurgy, the “Orlandia Engineering Society” handles it all.

Run by Chief Engineer Sid Shadowmoon, this faction represents Orlandia’s future.  A diverse and powerful society, the OES is constantly making technical adjustments to all the systems that keep the city running.  Among Chief Shadowmoon’s many accomplishments is the design and construction of the “Crown of Orlandia”.

One of the highest honors an Engineer can receive is to be invited into the Chief’s inner circle.   These are the innovators and inventors of a constantly evolving metropolis.  Seemingly random Engineering Specialists from all walks of life make up the secretive inner circle.

Rumors abound throughout the city that the Chief and his inner circle are pushing the boundaries of science without the safety of its inhabitants in mind.  Despite public demand and protest, Shadowmoon refuses to divulge the nature and agenda of the inner circle, garnering a great deal of suspicion.

One young Pipeworks Engineer named Gant may hold the key to Orlandia’s future, or its destruction.

Although this faction is marred with the reputation of being populated by pirates, highwaymen and thieves, The League is a confederation of merchants, adventurers and fortune hunters, based in the Enclave of Wyldehaven, who prefer to remain independent of Orlandia.  Many guilds within the league have been involved in an ongoing conflict with the city-state.  Pirates embody the spirit of freedom and adventure, choosing to live outside of the constraints of society.  Having done this for so long, these thieves and brigands have made their own laws and codes to live by, especially in Wyldehaven.

Wyldehaven, in the haunted Wylde Wood, is a small trading colony, where any business can be conducted without government intervention.  Protected by dense trees and superstition, only the bravest souls will enter this foreboding forest.  It is located in the lands granted to the family Von Sunderland in the time before, and they still rule there today.

The newly appointed Pirate Leader, Alex Von Sunderland is Captain of the Crown of Corvidious.  The Crown, a grand Orlandian Warbringer, stolen by Duke Stratosphere Von Sunderland 12 years ago.   Since the “acquisition” of the OSDF’s prized air fortress, the pirates have been embroiled in an intense conflict with Air Marshall Kerensky.

Because the Pirates are denied floatstones to raise their ships, they have to steal them from any ships they choose to “liberate”.  Some pirate crews move from ship to ship as they liberate them, while others prefer to maintain and repair the same ship, raid after raid.

Recently Duke Stratosphere has become gravely ill.  After years of conflict he now finds pointless, he wishes to strike an accord with the leaders of Orlandia.  There has been increased infighting among the pirates, as some are willing to follow Von Sunderland into the future as legitimate “privateers”, while others are determined to preserve the independence  afforded by their current way of life.

Skies of Orlandia, Updates

Factions:

Skies or Orlandia is a rich world of unique characters, each with their own idea on the future of the land.

In order for each group to achieve their goals they need to gather support and help from the people of Orlandia. Throughout the weekend the major players will try to gather as many people as they can to their cause. But they must be careful because the strength of the people is fickle, and support can come and go.

In skies of Orlandia secrets are always being reveled and alliances are always shifting. Players are encouraged to switch their alliance to factions on their own whims.

As with previous years, players earn XP through various means during the weekend. When they have enough XP they can turn it in to a game master to be brought up to the next level.

This year when they level up, they can also change to another faction at the same time. Using our new tracking system, the game masters will be able to know what faction is in the lead at any given time.

This new technology will let the players decide how the game unfolds during the weekend.

There is more information about what official factions there are, what their goals are, and what benefits they offer you shortly.

Guild System

The Skies of Orlandia Guild system is a straightforward way for fans of the event to organize and work together before during and after the Anime Festival Orlando Convention.

Rivalry and partnerships are encouraged! Players can enhance their roleplay at the event by creating their own characters and back stories. Settle an online battle live, contribute to the ongoing story, and help create games and pvp to be used at the convention.

Anyone can join the guild and only three things must be completed to form a guild:

1. Guild must be registered at afofactions forums.
2. At least 3 members must be preregistered for Anime Festival Orlando.
3. One person must be the designated spokesmen

Guilds are not mandatory.

You don’t have to belong to a Guild to play the game, you don’t even have to roleplay. You can be a lone wolf if that’s your style.

Guilds can merge with each other or form alliances, two groups working together for a single goal or faction.

Guilds can have official rivalry’s, and can schedule online and live convention battles where the winners will be posted on the forums and website. (pirates vs ninja anyone?)

The guild can be any theme and can be for or against any faction as a whole, but each member of the guild makes the official faction backing on their own. (liberal dad, republican mom, still one family)

So what are you waiting for? Call your friends and sign up today.
